While Hoover is helping bring a new love story to audiences, one of her own most anticipated adaptations is preparing to embrace a much darker tone.

Verity teaser promises a chilling psychological thriller

The first teaser for Verity offers a haunting glimpse into the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling psychological thriller. Dakota Johnson stars as a struggling writer drawn into the mysterious Crawford family, where Anne Hathaway's enigmatic Verity looms over every interaction. The teaser sets an unsettling mood with Hathaway's chilling line, "There is no light where we're going," hinting at the disturbing secrets waiting beneath the surface.

The footage also teases an increasingly tense dynamic between Johnson, Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett, blending romance, obsession, and psychological manipulation. Directed by Michael Showalter, the film reunites the filmmaker with Hathaway following The Idea of You, while Nick Antosca penned the screenplay. Verity is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 2, 2026, and has already generated significant buzz after its first footage debuted during CinemaCon.
