Tom Rhys Harries is rooting for Scarecrow to be the next DC Villain feature. As the cinematic landscape continues to prove that audiences have an insatiable appetite for complex, morally gray antiheroes and psychological thrillers, comic book adaptations are increasingly looking beyond traditional heroes to explore the darker corners of superhero universes. With DC Studios opening the door for gritty, character-driven standalone projects centered on iconic rogues, the conversation around who deserves the spotlight next is heating up among both fans and the actors stepping into these legendary worlds.
Now, as the excitement builds around the upcoming Clayface film, star Tom Rhys Harries is weighing in on Gotham's criminal underworld, naming the master of fear himself, Scarecrow, as his ultimate top pick for DC's next standalone villain feature.

Following a red-carpet reunion at the Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles, Clayface recently celebrated its premiere on October 13. Tom Rhys Harries, who plays the titular character, was asked by Deadline about the next DC villain the actor would like to see get their own feature film.
“Scarecrow would be pretty cool,” the actor replied almost immediately.
“You could do some kind of like Inception the audience don’t know what’s real kind of thing,” he added.

According to what Harries told Deadline, Scarecrow is the perfect candidate for an Inception-style psychological thriller. By trapping both Batman and the audience inside overlapping layers of delusion, the narrative could subvert traditional superhero expectations - turning every shadow into a personalized hallucination where past traumas, deepest guilts, and latent phobias manifest as physical threats.
This surreal, mind-bending approach would elevate the genre from a standard crime thriller into an atmospheric, high-stakes psychological chess match, exploring the chilling reality that a villain who dismantles your mind is far more dangerous than one who simply breaks your bones.
The Clayface actor might have picked Scarecrow as his top pick just because of the similarities in the genre both DC villains reside in.
The thematic similarities between Clayface and Scarecrow
According to official DC details, Clayface tracks a man's terrifying transformation from an ascending Hollywood actor into a vengeance-driven creature, weaving a narrative that delves into identity loss, the stripping away of humanity, toxic romance, and the perilous side of scientific overreach. This storyline takes the audience into a similar subgenre of horror where Scarecrow lurks.

Both characters share a deep thematic core rooted in obsession, academic or professional isolation, and the catastrophic loss of humanity. While one is driven by the superficial vanity and toxic ambitions of Hollywood stardom and body horror, and the other by clinical psychology and the weaponization of human fear, their trajectories mirror each other in striking ways. This psychological parallel makes Tom Rhys Harries' pitch for a standalone Scarecrow film a brilliant thematic sibling to Clayface - both explore how brilliant, fragile men are utterly unmade by their own obsessions.
