The Emmy Awards’ In Memoriam segment missed out on paying tribute to some of the year’s most devastating losses. Much like every year, the Emmys brought together actors, directors, producers, and other creatives from across the television world under one roof. The ceremony celebrates the extraordinary productions and performances of the year while also recognizing those who made impressive contributions to the industry and promising talents.
However, the star-studded crowd also takes a brief moment during the event to pause and remember the heartbreaking losses of the year. It is to honor the creative minds and talents who left the world too soon. While the Emmys followed the same tradition this year, the In Memoriam segment missed a few notable names.
Emmy’s In Memoriam did not mention Chuck Norris and more
The Emmy’s official In Memoriam segment pays tribute to members of the television industry who have passed away since the previous ceremony. This year, the segment did not feature Nicholas Brendon, Chuck Norris, Daveigh Chase, Patrick Muldoon, singer and actress Jaye P. Morgan, or Grizz Chapman. These notable names may have been left out due to the segment’s limited runtime.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor Nicholas Brendon passed away in his sleep on March 20, 2026, at the age of 54. And just a day earlier, on March 19, Walker, Texas Ranger star Chuck Norris passed away. Daveigh Chase, who voiced Chihiro in the English version of Spirited Away, died on June 16 this year. Muldoon passed away at the age of 57 in April 2026, and Chapman passed away in May.
Fans who had been waiting to see these actors and legends honored were likely upset by the omission. Something similar was pointed out by fans last year as well, when the 2025 Emmy In Memoriam segment missed the opportunity to recognize Hulk Hogan, Polly Holliday, Tony Todd, and several others. Some of the names that were not featured during the segment were reportedly mentioned on the TV Academy’s website.
While several notable names were missed, the Emmy In Memoriam segment did pay tribute to numerous other members of the television industry during its brief runtime.
The Emmy’s In Memoriam honored Catherine O’Hara and more
Catherine O’Hara’s Schitt’s Creek co-stars Annie Murphy and Dan Levy, who played her children on the show, took the stage to host her In Memoriam tribute. They were joined by O’Hara’s Home Alone co-star Macaulay Culkin, who also paid tribute to the late actress. She passed away on January 30, 2026.

Dolly Parton was honored during the event alongside legendary actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner. While the absence of several names, including Chuck Norris, may have upset fans, the segment featured more individual tributes than in previous years. Despite the challenge of limited time, the Emmys appeared to have been making a effort to honor as many television figures as possible.
