Christopher Nolan has hailed Elliot Page as “terrific” in The Odyssey, turning their reunion into one of the film’s most talked-about highlights. Nolan has long been known for building a loyal creative circle and returning to actors who understand his precision and scale. For example, Michael Caine became one of his most familiar collaborators, while Cillian Murphy evolved from supporting player to leading man.

Likewise, names like Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway have also become part of Nolan’s recurring ensemble.

That same instinct for trusted partnerships is now back in focus with Elliot Page, and Nolan recently had especially warm words for the actor’s work.

Christopher Nolan is full of awe for Elliot Page ahead of The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan has high praise for Elliot Page’s role in The Odyssey, calling the actor “terrific” and saying the part felt perfect for him, in a talk with The Morning Show. The film marks a meaningful reunion for the two, who previously worked together on Inception.

“It was really fun. Elliot’s just terrific, and I just thought this was such a great part for him. We had such a great time years ago on Inception. It’s nice to reunite with people,” Nolan expressed.

His comments on The Morning Show reflect the kind of long-term creative trust that often shapes major ensemble films. The bond is even more special in a project as ambitious as The Odyssey, where the filmmaker is drawing on a large cast to carry a mythic story onto the biggest possible canvas.

According to multiple reports, Elliot Page plays Sinon in the film, a Greek soldier whose role is central to the Trojan Horse deception in The Odyssey. That casting adds another layer of significance to the reunion, since Page’s part is tied to one of the epic’s most famous turning points. Earlier speculation had suggested he might play Achilles, but the confirmed role places him in a more strategic and narratively important position.

Nolan’s focus on performance does not stop with his human cast, as his approach to mythological storytelling pushes even further.

A new approach to monsters shapes in The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan has revealed it was Guillermo del Toro who helped reshape the way he thinks about monsters, and that idea became an important creative guide for The Odyssey. Rather than treating a creature as just a visual effect or a simple threat, Nolan took the view that even mythical beings should be approached like fully formed characters with presence, purpose, and personality.

"I was very inspired by Guillermo del Toro." he said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

"What I learned from him is that a monster is not a monster. You have to approach them the way you approach any other character," he explained.

That thinking seems to have informed how he handled the film’s biggest mythological challenges, including Scylla and Polyphemus. Nolan used a mix of practical effects, performance, and visual technology to give the creatures a more tangible, lived-in quality instead of making them feel purely digital or detached.

For Polyphemus, the production combined puppetry, animatronics, robotics, and Bill Irwin’s physical performance, showing how much value Nolan placed on the actor’s body language and movement. He also explained that the design process drew on strong visual references, including Saturn Devouring His Son, which was kept visible during development as a constant reminder of the mood and tone he wanted, one that Elliot Page has terrifically matched.
