Christopher Meloni would likely have appeared more often on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit if not for his packed schedule and ongoing projects. His character, Elliot Stabler, is one of the most beloved characters in the long-running spin-off show. And many fans feel that his current screen time is not enough.

It seems that even SVU showrunner Michele Fazekas also had the same idea, as she continues trying to bring Meloni back for more episodes in the show.

Christopher Meloni, who left Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2011, had finally returned to the franchise after a decade to reunite with his former partner, Olivia Benson. However, fans wanted to see more of his character in SVU, especially more moments between Stabler and Benson, given their strong chemistry as partners and the long-discussed potential for romance. Michele Fazekas, who is often asked about Stabler’s return, assured fans that she continues to make efforts to bring the actor back to the show more frequently.

“I would use him as much as he wants to. I tried to!" she told PEOPLE.

"[Meloni's] very, very busy," Frazekas said. "I tried to bring him into this. I'll just sometimes ask the question like, 'Hey, is he working?' "It's like, 'Oh yes, of course he's working.'"

When Meloni returned to the franchise, he also starred in his own spin-off series, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which premiered in 2021 and was canceled after five seasons. While Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson also appeared in the show and teamed up with Stabler to solve cases, fans have continued to express their wish to see more of the duo together. Now, while Meloni is currently likely occupied with the Hulu series The Landman by Dan Fogelman, Michele Fazekas’ comments still offer hope for more appearances in the future.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 28 is confirmed

NBC has officially confirmed Season 28 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and the announcement was made earlier in April this year. Now, the renewal does not come as a surprise, considering the long-running spin-off’s continued success across streaming. As for the cast, NBC has yet to release official details, but Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Aimé Donna Kelly, and Peter Scanavino will likely return to reprise their roles.

Showrunner Michele Fazekas, in a conversation with TVLine, also expressed her wish to involve Ice-T’s character more, as budget constraints had previously limited his screen time. That has also raised questions about how much Christopher Meloni could appear on season 28 of the show. Fans may get those answers when the next season arrives during the 2026–27 television season.
