Christine Baranski and Richard E. Grant will co-star in a new West End production of Noël Coward’s comedy of manners, Hay Fever. Grant is known for his roles in Gosford Park and Saltburn. While Baranski will play the role of Judith Bliss, Grant will portray David Bliss in the play. The rest of the cast is yet to be announced.

For those unfamiliar with the play, it follows the Bliss family during a chaotic time when each member of the family has secretly invited a guest to their country house. Judith, in the play, is a retired stage actress. As personalities clash, their weekend spirals into comedic chaos, followed by misunderstandings and drama.

The play was inspired by the playwright’s fascination with American actress Laurette Taylor and her unconventional charm at social gatherings. He turned that into the chaos of the Bliss family. While Felicity Kendal played the role of Judith in the past, the torch is now passed to Baranski.
