Chris Hemsworth recently appeared on the SmartLess podcast to discuss his decision to leave Los Angeles at the peak of his Marvel success. He and his wife, Elsa Pataky, decided to relocate to Australia half a decade after getting married to provide a more stable life for their newborn sons.

“Greatest decision,” Chris Hemsworth exclaimed on the podcast.

The actor noted that the move allowed him to separate his work from his home. He explained that nothing was shooting in the city at the time, and returning to the intense public scrutiny felt exhausting.

“You’d come home and paparazzi and all the sort of the trappings of, you know, living in that space,” Hemsworth described. 

For him, coming home to Australia turned holiday-like because of his large farm with horses and the resources to surf. This lifestyle provides a stark contrast to the fast-paced nature of a typical metropolitan media hub that the actor has grown to appreciate.

This geographical flexibility allowed him to lead massive action films while keeping his home base in a secluded environment.

Even his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe often took him far from the West Coast, with Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder filming extensively in Australia. By bringing these massive productions to his home territory, he managed to support the local film industry while staying close to his family.
