Chase Infiniti Credits K-Pop for Oscar-Nominated Breakthrough with 'One Battle After Another'

It might not be an exaggeration to say that K-pop has taken over the world. From adults to children, people all over the world are grooving to global hits like APT and the infectious energy emanating from songs including Cupid, Ditto, and countless others. The wave shows no sign of slowing down, and it only rises higher, becoming a perennial trend.
While this global phenomenon is nothing new, what many may not realize is that K-pop’s influence seemingly stretches far beyond music. And, it may even have helped a rising actress, Chase Infiniti, land one of the biggest opportunities of her career at a young age.

Chase Infiniti gained massive traction for playing teenage girl Willa Ferguson in One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. But she got the gig offer thanks to her early dance videos, where she covered popular K-pop songs alongside her dance group, Duple Dance crew. She revealed that the film’s crew was looking for someone skilled in both martial arts and dance.
"These videos did because when I was started auditioning for One Battle, I literally had no credits. I was working on Presumed Innocent And the only thing that I had out, there were my dance covers And they were looking for somebody who could do gymnastics or makes martial arts or dances," she said.
Both of her K-pop covers, as well as her time practicing kickboxing and a fitness job in college, helped her polish her skills. And that made her a perfect fit. Clearly, her K-pop dance background played a key role in landing the part. As for the film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, it went on to win an Oscar, and Infiniti’s performance was also widely praised.
And that recognition has opened the door to new opportunities for the rising actress. She has recently gone on to star in yet another promising new series, The Testaments. Infiniti was hailed as the perfect choice by the showrunners of the series.
However, this time, there was a different reason for the casting team to choose her.
Chase Infiniti starred in The Testaments
As many know, Chase Infiniti played the role of Agnes MacKenzie in the series, The Testaments. And, as per showrunner Bruce Miller, he chose her because she was perfect to be Agnes and reminded him of Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale). He said that the two were similar, not in appearance, but in presence, which made her the right choice for the role. He pointed out that, like Moss, Infiniti brings an almost untraceable energy to her performances.
“She was unpredictable. I didn’t know what she was going to do — not in a scary way, but I just didn’t have any idea what she was going to say, if she was going to go left or right,” he explained.

Her breakout in One Battle After Another already showcased her talent. And working with such a huge cast also helped her to settle into The Testaments. If this is any indication, this is only the beginning for Infiniti.
