Charlize Theron Scales Times Square Billboard in Live Stunt for Film ‘Apex’

Charlize Theron has gone all out to promote Apex, her new action movie that is currently available on Netflix. The Oscar-winning actress scaled a billboard in Times Square just for the sake of her new movie. Marketing campaigns in Hollywood have now become some sort of spectacle. Take Drake’s recent stunt for example, installing a massive ice structure in a Hotel parking in Toronto just to reveal the release date for his new album 'Iceman.'
The marketing tactics have gone insane, and Charlize Theron’s latest stunt for Apex just proves it.

Charlize Theron performed a high-altitude stunt to promote Apex on Friday by scaling a large billboard atop Times Square's Pentacular. Naturally wearing a safety harness, Theron climbed a fake rock wall several floors high while inquisitive New Yorkers looked on from below on 7th Avenue. She danced and waved to spectators at the top while they applauded.
Theron plays a rock climber who becomes stuck in the Australian Outback and is pursued by a serial killer played by Taron Egerton in the film Apex. She trained with rock climber Beth Rodden, who is renowned for scaling Yosemite's challenging Meltdown surface, for the high-stakes adrenaline-pumping movie.
The 50-year-old actress looked completely relaxed and in control, carefully scaling the side of a skyscraper in Times Square while being strapped in as if it were not a big deal. She handles the stunt with grace, showing off her climbing chops that she acquired after months of training for the movie.
She was fortunate to have a strong setup and a full safety crew waiting below, which is not exactly what her character is going through in the movie.
What happens to her character in Apex?
Apex, written by Jeremy Robbins, directed by Baltasar Kormákur, and also starring Eric Bana, follows Charlize's Sasha on a solitary kayaking journey through the Australian wilderness. She meets Ben (Egerton), who entices her to engage in a brutal struggle for survival. A brutal survival thriller ensues where the stakes are life and death.

The movie presents an exhilarating cat-and-mouse chase with the wild Australian landscape serving as the unforgiving backdrop. Charlize Theron’s fight for survival is definitely a must-watch, and interestingly, Netflix has several others just like it in its library. Anyhow, after Theron’s daring stunt, the platform is more likely to see a surge in demand for the movie.
