Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen are officially playing father and son again on AMC. Hollywood adores a good reunion, and this one comes with real family history attached. Some families settle things at holiday tables, while this one prefers a proper television set. Expect sharp family banter and a few generational eye rolls, courtesy of a very familiar pair of actors. The family tree is about to get pleasantly complicated.

While the Sheens sharpen their comic timing, the next section explains what Happy Jack actually brings to the small screen.

Happy Jack is the new AMC and AMC+ comedy reuniting Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen as father and son for the first time in over a decade. Their most recent joint project was the FX sitcom Anger Management, which ran from 2012 to 2014, with the elder Sheen playing his son's on-screen father, Martin Goodson.

"It's no secret that it's been a minute," said Sheen in a statement to AMC Global Media.

He then added, "I'm thrilled to be going back on television in such a meaningful way in an equally wonderful show."

Sheen clearly treats this as a major return.

The half-hour series consists of six episodes and is set to premiere in 2027, with production beginning at Warner Bros. Studios, on the stage where Friends was filmed, according to AMC Global Media. Two and a Half Men veterans Jim Patterson and Matt Ross serve as writers and showrunners. Charlie Sheen stars as Jack, a lifelong underachiever whose daughter brings home a boyfriend who happens to be the same age as him. AMC Studios President Dan McDermott described the series as something new for AMC.

While Happy Jack reunites the pair, a Netflix documentary reveals one Sheen who said no.

Charlie Sheen told The Hollywood Reporter that his father, the veteran actor, declined to appear in aka Charlie Sheen, the two-part Netflix documentary about his life. Director Andrew Renzi asked several times, hoping for at least an appearance in part two, but the elder Sheen held firm. His reason was simple: he felt viewers do not need the current version of him when the younger, more handsome one already exists on film.

Renzi also wanted Sheen's brother, Emilio Estevez, and showed both men a rough cut of part one, but neither agreed to appear in part two. Sean Penn, a childhood friend, filled the gap so well that Renzi stopped chasing other celebrity interviews. The series draws on Sheen's memoir, The Book of Sheen, and covers everything from a Malibu childhood to rehab. Martin Sheen skipped the documentary, but the Happy Jack set has a chair with his name on it.
