Channing Tatum Perfectly Avoids Chris Evans Question Like a True Marvel Vet
At the Marvel school of secrecy, superheroes are trained to dodge spoilers like punches. Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, one of the most significant Phase 6 films to date, every actor remotely related to the project has questions about the swarm of cast members converging on them. But Channing Tatum, in particular, is not taking any chances.
Some think Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers, and this belief spreads to other MCU actors who are asked about it. Recently, in a humorous moment, Tatum spilled the nonexistent beans about Evans' possible return.

Channing Tatum remained hilariously tight-lipped when asked whether Chris Evans would appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Tatum remained completely unaware of the not-so-secret information, despite the fact being publicly disclosed through the trailer. The Gambit actor joked about getting abducted over accidentally spoiling the Marvel secrets, something which only Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland are good at.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about … If I say anything other than, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’ there’s somebody that will black bag me and throw me in a car ... I’ve learned my lesson," Tatum told E! News when asked about Evans' Doomsday casting news.
Tatum's playful secrecy in the E! News interview delighted fans, amplifying their excitement around existing rumors about character comebacks. Multiple sources have confirmed that Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers, as the trailer and marketing content show his iconic Captain America character.
Though Tatum being afraid of divulging the details only solidifies fans' theories, hopes, and wishes, the question of character reunions in Doomsday persists.
Is Chris Evans actually returning to the MCU?
Chris Evans's appearance had created confusion about his Doomsday casting because he had publicly declared retirement from the role. But some footage showed him returning to his previous character. In the first teaser trailer, Evans returned as the star-spangled Avenger, but, in a twist, Captain America was holding a newborn child.
"His central role to the Avengers and the larger narrative of what the MCU has been something that’s very personal to us. We can’t see this narrative without his central role in it," the directors Russo brothers told Empire Magazine about Steve Rogers being central to the plot of Avengers: Doomsday, releasing on December 18, 2026.

Evans, who shall reunite with MCU's Atlas, Iron-Man star, Robert Downey Jr. in the form of the iconic villain Doctor Doom, could be forced to rejoin the fight for the sake of his family life with Peggy Carter, as seen in Avengers: Endgame. However, having passed down his shield to Sam Wilson, he might change up his moniker this time around.
