An Oscar nomination is a tremendous honor. Whether a win is in their fate or not, it is still a milestone worth celebrating, especially with the people who stood beside them on the journey to the red carpet. After all, the moment is made more special and meaningful for the nominees by having their closest supporters there to witness it.  

But walking into the event comes with its own strict rules and protocols that cannot be overlooked. So, what rules does the Academy have when it comes to nominees bringing guests and especially a date to share in their big night in Hollywood?

The answer is a simple yes. The Oscar nominees do not have to walk into the Academy Awards alone. The Academy allows them to bring atleast four people as guests. So, any nominee is allowed to have their family join them for the big night.

However, most nominees prefer to keep the moment personal, often choosing just one companion for the evening. In recent years, stars like Cillian Murphy and Adrien Brody have been seen arriving hand-in-hand with their partners. Others often turn to invite parents or siblings to join them. 

This year, Jacob Elordi, nominated for Frankenstein, is expected to walk the red carpet with his mother by his side. Much like Elordi and Murphy, Oscars will be both a huge celebration of the films as well as a personal moment for the nominees.

Now, with that, there will be nominees, their families, and presenters at the event. But who are the other guest in the event?

Oscar winners and nominees are often invited to the events. The Academy also invites industry professionals to become members, and those members get the right to vote for the Oscars. These people are from different branches, including music, acting, and executives working at major studios. 

Taylor Swift was shortlisted for an Oscar-eligible song, and that made her eligible for membership consideration. Now, people cannot apply on their own, as most candidates need sponsorship from two existing Academy members, while Oscar nominees and winners do not require sponsors. So, there are clearly some strict rules for who gets to attend the Oscars.
