Before they were officially cast as Teela and He-Man, Camila Mendes and Nicholas Galitzine participated in a chemistry read together. During a recent appearance on Now This Judgy, Mendes recalled a remark from Galitzine that made her fear she might not be the right fit for the warrior role.
“You almost cost me a job once. Getting the role in Masters of the Universe. When I chemistry read with him, there was like a little monitor where you could see and what we looked like in the frame. We could see ourselves and Nick looking at it and he just goes ‘You are so tiny!’ and I am auditioning for a warrior!” Mendes said.
The actress, who stands at 5-foot-3½, joked that Galitzine's observation came at the worst possible moment. While the comment was made casually, Mendes admitted it briefly made her self-conscious as she was trying to convince the filmmakers she could embody the fierce and capable Teela.
The chemistry that helped Mendes and Galitzine secure their roles has clearly carried over beyond the audition room, with the co-stars continuing to exchange jokes and lighthearted comments while promoting the film.

Camila Mendes joined in on the fun, joking that the cast was left with "one little loincloth." As the conversation continued, director Travis Knight pointed out that dressing the film's leading lady in white might not have been the most practical decision. Despite the jokes, both actors praised their costumes for being surprisingly comfortable. Mendes described Teela's outfit as feeling like soft leather, while Galitzine's He-Man costume includes a loincloth and harnesses. The white costume also appears to be a tribute to Teela's classic look from the franchise. Directed by Travis Knight, Masters of the Universe will follow He-Man and Teela as they reunite to defend Eternia from looming threats.
Although Mendes initially worried that Galitzine's comment could hurt her chances, the story has become a funny memory between the two co-stars. Their playful rapport off-screen appears to mirror the chemistry that helped them land their roles in one of the franchise's most anticipated adaptations.
