The coronation turmoil is not ending anytime soon. The oceans have calmed and even the winds are in favor of the historic event about to take place exactly four days from now at the Westminster Abbey. However, the netizens are not. And it seems like even the Archbishop could not stop the British populace from causing outrage against King Charles.

While Royals believe Prince Harry started a “time bomb” to destroy monarchy, the latest appeal to the European public to swear allegiance to the king has perhaps caught a forest fire on Twitter.

Just days ago, BBC reported that the church has invited people around the continent to vow fidelity to the King. And 24 hours later, Brits have already vouched against it. Following the oath, the followers will reportedly have to say “God save King Charles. Long live King Charles. May The King live forever.” And even though it is not mandatory, Twitterati have taken a jibe at it.

They not only slam this invitation but also comment their choice of kings to swear allegiance to: The chosen ones are sports persons and fictional characters. While some said they will vow their loyalty to King Julien XIII from Madagascar 4, others shared they would rather take a bath with their toaster.

Other users also clearly stated that they will not do it until the monarchy promises to feed the poor “or deliver a pay rise for NHS staff working in terrible conditions.”

Another one alleged it is medieval, controlling, and abusive.

One fan slammed this invitation to be “tone deaf.”

Furthermore, people are ready to swear allegiance to celebrity car racers, footballers like David Narey, and even pets and animals, but not the king!

Another fan states she would rather vow loyalty to Princess Diana than the King.

According to various outlets, the Palace has backed the invite by stating that it is “simply an opportunity offered by the Archbishop.” Furthermore, it will let those who wish to repeat the words spoken by the Abbey congregation do it easily. It is not a necessity, expectation, or request but simply an invitation. The invitation was apparently broadcasted from the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury this weekend in which they replaced ‘Homage to Peers’ with ‘Homage to people.’

The Palace source also explained how it will be a matter for individuals. While some may repeat the whole thing after Most Rev Justin Welby, others can just use the moment for private reflection. “Much like the National Anthem, it’s for people to join in if that feels right for them,” the royal source mentioned in a chat with The Guardian.
