Brad Pitt is set for another box-office battle with Tom Cruise later this year. After the massive success of F1 in 2025, which went on to earn multiple Academy Award nominations and even a win, Pitt is showing no signs of slowing down. The Troy star has an impressive lineup this year, too, with Heart of the Beast and The Adventures of Cliff Booth among his upcoming projects. He is also expected to star in The Riders in 2027.

Before that, though, Pitt’s next theatrical release, Heart of the Beast, is set to go head-to-head with Cruise's latest big-screen venture in theaters.

There has been plenty of chatter surrounding Brad Pitt’s upcoming movie Heart of the Beast, which is set to be released on September 25, 2026. And just a week later, Tom Cruise’s Digger is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 2, 2026. That will leave Pitt’s film to compete to maintain its spot in the box office, while Cruise’s movie will have to work its way up against the earlier release. 

This is not the first time the two Hollywood giants have gone head-to-head at the box office. Back in 2008, Pitt’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Cruise’s Valkyrie opened on Christmas Day. While neither film was a flop, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button had grossed $82 million in the 13 days following its release, while Valkyrie had earned $62 million over the same period. 

More than a decade later, Pitt and Cruise will once again find themselves in a similar box-office battle. It is still too early to make any predictions about the movies. But both films are backed by talented casts and creative teams, which gives them strong potential at the box office.

The plot of Digger, which was filmed for six months in the UK, is yet to be revealed. However, Tom Cruise, who is also producing the film, is set to star as Digger Rockwell. Backed by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, the movie is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.  

Meanwhile, Brad Pitt’s survival thriller Heart of the Beast has garnered traction for its intriguing premise. Directed by David Ayer, the film follows a former Navy SEAL and his retired military dog as they struggle to survive in a remote wilderness filled with unexpected dangers after a plane crash. There is considerable anticipation surrounding both films, and their closely timed releases only raise the stakes for what could become one of the most closely watched box-office battles of 2026.
