Quentin Tarantino rewrote Hollywood history in 2019 with his sun-drenched, Californian fable, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Instantly cementing itself as a modern classic, the film struck gold at the 92nd Academy Awards with 10 nominations and two wins - including a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Brad Pitt alongside Best Production Design. Audiences turned out in droves as well, propelling the $90 million feature to a massive $393.9 million worldwide box office triumph.
Trying to explore a bit more of the Californian saga, Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth in a sequel to the movie helmed by David Fincher, which just got an appropriate title.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel just got a name
The Further Mis-Adventures Of Cliff Booth is the official title of the sequel to Quentin Tarantino's 2019 blockbuster Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. David Fincher is the director of the film, the screenplay for which comes from Tarantino himself. On November 25, 2026, the movie will have a two-week exclusive run in IMAX theaters across the globe before making its Netflix debut on December 23, 2026.
Eight years after the events of the first film, in 1977, when Hollywood was witnessing the emergence of contemporary blockbusters, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth takes the audience further into the depths of California. The movie centers on Booth, who is now long retired from stunt work and works as a gritty Hollywood studio fixer, managing secrets and controversies in the industry.

Ten core cast members for the sequel were formally announced by Netflix's most recent release, which included both returning characters and an outstanding ensemble of newcomers joining the universe: Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian.
The movie was originally supposed to be helmed by Quentin Tarantino, but due to some personal reasons, he left the film midway.
Quentin Tarantino walked out, giving way to David Fincher
Quentin Tarantino was initially attached to lead the project, but he left in the middle of 2025, saying he was not excited about going back to the same old thing since he wanted his last film to be entirely creative. He stated that David Fincher was the only director he felt comfortable taking the helm of the film rather than starting from scratch.

The only conflict was that in 2020, Fincher signed an exclusive arrangement with Netflix, which meant that the picture could only be produced at Netflix. But when Tarantino was directing the project, the film was scheduled to be released at Sony Pictures. Some negotiations may have taken place behind the scenes, resulting in Netflix securing the final deal.
