Brad Pitt’s latest theatrical outing has become the highest-grossing title from Apple Original Films, racing past all previous releases from the tech giant studio. With a domestic haul of USD 112 million so far since its June 27 release, the high-octane racing drama has become a certified theatrical hit, outperforming expectations for a streaming-backed endeavor. Blending real Formula 1 chaos with star power and sleek direction by Joseph Kosinski, F1 is making sure Apple’s big-screen ambitions pay off in the best way possible.
While F1 continues to rev its engines, it still, however, trails behind one of the automotive genre's all-time box office leaders, Furious 7. The 2015 blockbuster, led by Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker, peaked domestically at USD 353 million. Even so, F1 now ranks among the top-grossing racing films ever released in the States, zooming past titles like Ford v Ferrari and Rush, giving way to conversations about a sequel. The movie’s ensemble has also fanned the speculations for a potential F1 part two in recent days.
With F1 topping expectations, the director and second lead tease that the party may not be a one-and-done kind.
F1 sequel teased by director and Brad Pitt’s co-star
Speaking recently to GQ UK, F1 helmer Joseph Kosinski explained how the open-ended arcs of each of the movie’s characters leave room for more storytelling. The director, however, cautiously added that, although he feels a sequel is needed, the decision is beyond his authority. F1’s second lead, Damson Idris, meanwhile, acted coy, answering the same question to a different outlet, saying he does not wish to rush into a sequel so soon. It is noteworthy that if a sequel were to materialize, chances are that Idris would be taking the lead hero's baton from Brad Pitt.

Speaking of Brad Pitt, whose allure single-handedly carried F1 to greater heights, the actor recently revealed a blast from the past, making his fans believe he is also only a human beneath all that charm. Other than that, he has kept mum about an F1 sequel all through the buzz, making things suspicious. Nevertheless, considering how F1’s performance aligns with some of the all-time automotive chart-toppers, including Furious 7, fans are not wrong in holding out hopes for a follow-up film.
