Ever since Zootopia made its cultural touchstone, audiences around the world expected a sequel, Zootopia 2 to follow in its footsteps. Given how the prequel grossed billions at the global box office and was a frontrunner in various top categories, Zootopia 2's pathway to success seemed clear. Yet, at the 2026 BAFTA Awards, Boong–an Indian Manipuri film made its mark, surpassing Zootopia 2

The Lakshmipriya Devi directorial won the Best Children’s & Family Film over Zootopia 2, Lilo & Stitch, and the French animated feature Arco, leaving audiences frothing at the mouth with the question of where the 2026 BAFTA winner Boong is available to stream online.

Despite overthrowing major BAFTA contenders like Zootopia 2, which collected a whopping $424 million at the domestic box office, Boong is not available to stream in the US currently.

The film has a listing on MUBI, indicating its future availability on the platform, especially since the platform is known for securing and showcasing international and festival-lauded films.

Apart from the streaming, it has made festival runs and had its world premiere in the Discovery section of TIFF on September 7, 2024. Furthermore, it was selected at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (Australia) 2025 as the Centrepiece Film. With the film having made rounds at festivals and now being crowned a BAFTA winner, it is only a matter of time before it gets picked up by a streamer.

Although it will be a while before Boong can be streamed online by everyone, audiences can get a taste of the strong premise that led it to overthrow Zootopia 2

Premise of Boong

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi in her feature debut, Boong (which means little boy in Manipuri) is a tender coming-of-age story rooted in the landscapes of Manipur, India.

The film follows a young boy living with his single mother after his father’s mysterious disappearance. He thinks that reuniting his family is the greatest gift he can give his mother. He sets off on a heartfelt journey with his friend, navigating cultural borders, emotional challenges, and the raw innocence, unearthing themes of hope, loss, and the remarkable courage of a child’s heart in pursuit of family.
