Two actresses who once shared the screen as young stars are now being remembered through the same piece of Hollywood history. Blake Lively has paid tribute to Hayden Panettiere and Michelle Trachtenberg, her former Gossip Girl costar and Ice Princess costar, following their deaths at 36 and 39. Her message was brief, but it carried a much bigger reminder about what can remain hidden behind the lives audiences see on screen.
Lively’s two-word message became the heart of a tribute that connected two actresses whose careers crossed long before their lives were cut tragically short.
Blake Lively remembers two former costars with one simple message
On 17th August, Blake Lively shared an Instagram Stories post featuring clips from Ice Princess, the 2005 Disney film in which she appeared alongside Hayden Panettiere and Michelle Trachtenberg. “Be. Kind. You never know what others are going through,” she wrote over the video, later thanking both actresses for “all the joy” they brought to audiences. The tribute carried particular weight because Ice Princess had brought the three actresses together years before Panettiere’s death, while Trachtenberg would later become part of Lively’s Gossip Girl world as the unforgettable Georgina Sparks.
“Be. Kind. You never know what others are going through,” Lively wrote in an Instagram Stories post.

The film itself now feels like an especially poignant snapshot of a different Hollywood era. Trachtenberg played Casey Carlyle, a brilliant student who chooses figure skating over following the academic path expected of her, while Panettiere played Gen, the talented captain who initially stands in Casey’s way before their rivalry gives way to friendship.
Joan Cusack and Kim Cattrall also starred in the movie, which became one of the memorable Disney films of the mid-2000s and gave three young actresses another chapter in careers that would soon branch in very different directions. Meanwhile, recently, Spy Kids Star Alexa PenaVega also held hands in mourning Hayden Panettiere as the third child star lost in 2026.
However, behind that familiar Disney memory sits a much heavier reality, because both actresses would go on to build major careers before their stories ended far too soon.
Two careers that grew far beyond Ice Princess
Hayden Panettiere went from child-star roles into some of television’s biggest dramas, becoming a pop-culture phenomenon as Claire Bennet on Heroes before taking on the far more complicated role of Juliette Barnes on Nashville. Her career also stretched into the Scream franchise, video games including Kingdom Hearts and Until Dawn, and films such as Remember the Titans and Bring It On: All or Nothing. She died on Aug. 16, 2026, at 36, after being found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina; authorities have said there were no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances, while the investigation into her death continues.

Michelle Trachtenberg, meanwhile, had already become a familiar face long before Gossip Girl, starring as Harriet in Harriet the Spy and later playing Dawn Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Her turn as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl became one of her most recognizable roles, bringing her back into Lively’s orbit and turning the character into a fan-favorite source of chaos. Trachtenberg died in New York on Feb. 26, 2025, at 39, and the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that complications from diabetes mellitus caused her death, which was ruled natural.
Years after Ice Princess brought Blake Lively, Hayden Panettiere, and Michelle Trachtenberg together on screen, that old Disney memory now carries a heartbreaking weight.
