One of the foremost creative forces responsible for making Wakanda recognizable, Hannah Beachler, is listed among its returning talent. The Black Panther films have never treated Wakanda as merely a backdrop. Its architecture, technology, landscapes and cultural details are fundamental to how the fictional nation feels lived in, making the people shaping that world almost as important as the characters inhabiting it.

That visual language was established with Beachler’s production design and expanded in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Wakanda has always been as much a design achievement as a superhero kingdom, and one of its original architects may be returning.

Hannah Beachler’s IMDb profile currently lists Black Panther 3 among her upcoming projects, with the film’s full IMDb credits also naming her as production designer. That would put her back in the position of shaping the physical and visual environment of the next chapter after establishing its foundations in the first two films.

For a production designer, the job extends well beyond choosing attractive sets. The role involves developing the physical world in which a story operates, from architecture and interiors to locations, props and the visual logic connecting them. For Black Panther, that meant building Wakanda as an Afrofuturist civilization with its own architectural language and cultural identity.

She returned for Wakanda Forever, where Ryan Coogler tasked her with creating two distinct visual worlds as the story expanded beyond Wakanda. 

Beachler became the first Black person to win the Academy Award for Best Production Design for her work in Black Panther, sharing the 2019 Oscar with set decorator Jay Hart. Her return for the third film would therefore preserve a creative connection stretching across the franchise rather than simply bringing back a familiar name.

And between Wakanda’s two chapters sits another world where Beachler proved that her design vocabulary was never limited to superheroes.

Hannah Beachler’s credits include Ryan Coogler’s Creed, Fruitvale Station, Miles Ahead, Moonlight and Beyoncé’s Lemonade and Black Is King. Her work has moved comfortably between contemporary drama, music-driven projects, period settings and blockbuster world-building. Most recently, she reunited with Coogler for Sinners, designing its supernatural version of 1930s Mississippi.

The film earned Beachler her second Oscar nomination for Production Design, alongside set decorator Monique Champagne. Sinners itself won four Oscars in 2026, while Beachler’s production design remained one of its most celebrated visual elements.

All of this makes her potential return to Black Panther 3 particularly well timed. After moving from Wakanda to the American South of Sinners, Beachler could be heading back to the world that made her an Oscar-winning name in the first place, with another opportunity to make Wakanda feel like somewhere audiences could actually walk into.
