‘Big Little Lies’ Author Shares First Look at New Book: Liane Moriarty’s Novel to Shape Show’s Third Installment
HBO’s popular drama series Big Little Lies has been on a hiatus since 2019, when its second season was released. Since then, there has been a long wait for the show’s third season. The show managed to engage viewers in its emotionally engaging and slow-burn narrative. Based on Liane Moriarty’s 2014 bestselling novel by the same name, the television series far surpassed the source material with a clever screenplay and even superior performances by the leads.
Now, after seven long years, the author has finally announced the latest updates on the sequel to her book Big Little Lies.

Liane Moriarty has announced her new novel titled Big Little Truths, and now fans can anticipate its release sometime in August this year. In addition to being a follow-up to her 2014 book Big Little Lies, Moriarty's new book will serve as inspiration for the forthcoming third season of the Emmy-winning HBO series.
Since the third season of the HBO series will be based on the book, it was obvious to assume that Moriarty would be involved in the process. But this would not be the case as Moriarty will be hands off from it, according to the author herself, as she told USA Today. She did point out that one of the women's performances influenced her writing.
“It’s all Laura Dern’s fault because she was so amazing as Renata, it was impossible for me to not give her a bigger role also in this book,” Moriarty said while talking to USA Today. She further told the publication that while writing the book, she got to know the young characters as teenagers, which was the nicest part about the process for her.
Nicole Kidman, who recently shared a funny incident that happened while filming the show, has previously informed that the third season is in develo and Moriarty is delivering the book. Now that the author has announced the book, the production will probably gain some speed, and the next season will soon be finished.
Thankfully, the author has also revealed some plot details and the core idea behind the follow-up to the original story.
The story resumes with the Monterey Five's tale
Big Little Lies starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz debuted in 2017 and had a second season in 2019. Moriarty specially wrote an unpublished novella that served as the inspiration for the second season of the show. However, Moriarty's next book will take place ten years after the original plot, which is a significant time shift.

The book will bring back characters like Madeline, Celeste, Renata, Bonnie and Jane, who were in a sticky situation when someone in their wealthy neighborhood was murdered. The kids of the women, such as Ziggy, Amabella, and Chloe, who are now teens navigating their way through the tricky corridors of high school, will be the main focus of the sequel.
