Ben Affleck proudly jokes about Matt Damon's chiseled body in The Odyssey
Friends for over a decade in Hollywood, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have been sharing laughs and awards stages, and their friendly banter is still going strong with Damon’s drastic makeover for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. In early 2025, appearing on the Today Show with co-star Jon Bernthal to promote their movie The Accountant 2, Affleck jokingly pointed out Damon’s ripped, shirtless appearance from the movie set was his first time getting in shape.
"Matt, soon as the first time, he got in shape in his life, whipped his shirt off. He was like, ‘Who can I show this off to?!’ I was like, ‘You wanna just hold back a little?’" Affleck told the outlet while poking fun at Damon for seemingly ripping his shirt off every time he gets the chance.
Through Affleck's affectionate roast, he was both laughing and proud of Damon’s dedication. And most recently, The Rip duo got back together on the Today Show to react to Affleck's previous comments about Damon's body from last year. In a nutshell, Affleck once again teased Damon for flexing his chiseled physique.
"I am proud of him. Calvin Klein model. I think it's very impressive," Affleck said about a viral paparazzi shot of a shirtless Damon from the set of The Odyssey, as their banter continued with Damon trying to play coy but getting brutally roasted again.
"The director wanted me to get out there and lay on the couch and flex," Affleck mocked Damon, who tried to mitigate his embarrassment as he defered his bodily transformation to the filmmaker's decision, but Affleck was not having it.
Despite the playful banter, Damon’s muscular appearance from the set of Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation brought out the close friends’ good-humored relationship.
With the humor, Affleck recognized Damon’s commitment to the physical transformation for the exhausting role of Odysseus amid high anticipation for the star-studded film.
When is Matt Damon's The Odyssey arriving and what to expect?
The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan takes its basis from Homer’s ancient Greek poem about Odysseus’s adventurous journey home after the Trojan War. It is one of the boldest film undertakings of the last few years, taking on the IMAX 70 mm film cameras with the signature mixture of spectacle and emotional depth by Nolan.

The cast also includes other top-notch actors: Tom Holland as Telemachus (the son of Odysseus), Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Zendaya as Athena, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, and many others.
