Avengers actor Anthony Mackie has revealed the sacrifices he made for Avengers: Doomsday, including missing his children’s baseball games and other family moments. Mackie is playing the role of Sam Wilson/Captain America, who will once again become the leader for the next set of Avengers. Along with Mackie, Doomsday, which is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will feature the superheroes from the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men.

Meanwhile, Mackie’s comments has highlighted the personal cost behind bringing the highly anticipated Marvel project to life. 

Anthony Mackie has shared the personal sacrifices he made while filming Avengers: Doomsday, including missing time with his kids and their baseball games. At San Diego Comic-Con on July 31, 2026, Mackie told Entertainment Tonight about the intense production schedule and the fatherhood time he had to sacrifice. When he returned to set and felt the excitement and appreciation surrounding the much-anticipated Marvel film, he told ET’s Denny Directo the sacrifices felt worth it. 

“You sacrifice, you know, being a dad and missing baseball games. You sacrifice those things, and then you come in, and you feel the appreciation,” Mackie noted that balancing filming with fatherhood came at a personal cost, but the audience’s appreciation made it worthwhile. 

Mackie further told Entertainment Tonight that the response from the audience to the movie was much more emotional and lively than he expected, calling it deeply heartfelt. He admitted that it was interesting that even other cast members were astonished by the reaction after they went off the stage of the Comic Con. The great response only added to the thrill of being part of the franchise. Moreover, the actor mentioned that the fans were waiting for this movie and that all the effort put into the making of the film will depend on all of us.
