Sissy Spacek is thrilled about the series adaptation of Carrie. Several stories and novels by Stephen King have been adapted into films and television series, including It, Misery, and many more. Among his most haunting tales of rage and horror is his debut novel, Carrie, which was first adapted into a film in 1976, directed by Brian De Palma.

Over the years, the story has received several more screen adaptations. Now, this bone-chilling tale of horror is set to return as an eight-episode series starring Summer H. Howell. Now, it seems fans are not the only ones excited about the new adaptation.

During Summer H. Howell’s interview with Entertainment Tonight, she was told about Sissy Spacek’s response to the upcoming series adaptation. For those unfamiliar, Spacek played Carrie in the 1976 movie Carrie, which was the first screen adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel. And the actress has expressed excitement about the new series.

“That's such a beautiful homage that you know, I know. Stephen King feels that way. I feel that way. All original cast feels that way,” Spacek said.

That could perhaps be one of the best forms of encouragement for the cast of the series adaptation. Moreover, the actress shared an aspect of filming Carrie that Summer H. Howell could relate to in 2026. When Spacek was asked about a memory from the experience that had stayed with her over the years, she named one thing, and that is blood.

“How sticky movie blood is?” she said.

During the interview with Entertainment Tonight, Howell was quick to agree, having experienced the same thing while filming the series. While some details will remain unchanged in the new interpretation, there will also be new additions, including an exploration of how cyberbullying affects people. Furthermore, the series adaptation appears to be in good hands with Mike Flanagan, who has worked on several other adaptations of Stephen King’s novels.

Interestingly, although Howell portrayed the character on screen, she neither read the book nor watched the previous films.

Summer H. Howell reveals decision behind skipping Carrie book and films

In the same interview with Entertainment Tonight, Summer H. Howell was asked about her decision to skip both Stephen King’s novel Carrie and its previous film adaptations. The book has been adapted for the screen several times, including in a 2000 film. However, the actress explained that she wanted to show a unique performance during her audition, which influenced her decision to avoid watching the earlier adaptations or reading the novel.

“I like to try to stand out in my auditions, and I thought that was the way I could do that if I just, you know, trusting my gut doing what was on the page. And, you know, bringing my own to it,” she said.

Understandably, the first glimpses of the series have seemingly impressed audiences. The film debuted with an 83 percent rating and currently holds an 85 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. However, it remains to be seen whether the series will become as popular as the 1976 film.
