Barbie 2 is currently stalled by a massive money standoff between Warner Bros. and its biggest stars, and the clock is ticking louder than ever. Barbie land once felt like a guaranteed victory lap, a plastic paradise waiting for its second act. Instead, the mood behind the scenes has turned tense, wrapped in numbers, egos, and unsigned paperwork. Every franchise eventually meets its real test, and this one just found its toughest negotiation yet.

While Barbie land waits patiently in pink, the real drama is unfolding in boardrooms, where a looming December deadline is forcing everyone to finally talk numbers.

Barbie 2 is reportedly stuck over a serious money standoff. Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling never signed sequel terms with the original film, so every deal is being built from scratch now. Warner Bros. has raised its offers, but the gap over profit shares remains wide.

"They all want a lot more money because this did 1.5 billion worldwide," Matt Belloni said on his podcast, The Town with Matt Belloni.

He then added, "Gosling wants $20 million."

Much of the holdup traces back to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who reportedly viewed the offers as too generous already. A representative for the studio disputed that account, saying talent representatives rejected a May offer and have not sent back a counteroffer since. Gerwig and her husband, Noah Baumbach, already have a story in mind but are withholding it entirely until contracts are signed. On his podcast, The Town with Matt Belloni, Belloni noted that this kind of leverage plays out in the press on purpose.

Barbie is currently available on Max, along with YouTube TV and the HBO Max channel on Amazon. Viewers who prefer to rent or buy can find it on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, YouTube, and Google Play, usually for around four to six dollars. There is currently no free legal option available in the country. Availability shifts outside the US, with parts of Europe, including Spain, Ireland, and France, occasionally hosting the film on Netflix.

Elsewhere, the film usually sits on Amazon Prime Video or a regional Max and HBO service, though renting or buying remains the most reliable option in most markets. The easiest way to confirm local availability is to check JustWatch, since listings update often and vary by country. Classic animated Barbie titles remain free on the official Barbie YouTube channel, but the 2023 live-action film is not among them. Until Warner Bros. and its stars settle their numbers, this original will remain Barbie land's only chapter.
