Reviving the legacy of the White Eagle
According to Deadline, the screenplay for Porto Rico was co-written by Residente and Alexander Dinelaris, the Academy Award-winning writer behind the masterpiece Birdman. Their collaboration focuses on the life of José Maldonado Román, the revolutionary leader famously known as Águila Blanca or the White Eagle. Set in the late 1800s, the film will capture the visceral struggle of a man leading a gang of outcasts against the oppressive forces of colonialism.
“I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child. Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy,” Residente stated to Deadline.
