Step back in time as the Friends actress who portrayed Charlie fondly recalls Matthew Perry's encouraging words before their performance.

Back When ‘Friends’ Charlie Actress Remembered Matthew Perry’s “Kind” Words Before Hitting Stage

Friends became a life-altering phenomenon and Matthew Perry was the guy who
reshaped the game. His role as Chandler Bing was not just a character; it was a
masterclass in blending wit, emotion, and kindness. Perry was not just a sitcom
star; he was a blueprint for anyone looking to navigate life with a dash of
humor and a lot of heart. And even after he left the stage, his legacy lived on,
touching the lives of fellow actors like John Stamos and Jessica Hecht, who
could not get enough of his genuine kindness.

A new face, the one who brought Charlie to life in the sitcom, reflected on the
pearls of “kindness” Perry tossed her way.

A REAL FRIEND FOR TYLER ON FRIENDS

Almost two decades have passed since Aisha Tyler stepped into the spotlight as
Charlie Wheeler on the legendary sitcom. She quoted on the nerves and excitement
that accompanied her journey into the world of Central Perk. Tyler humorously
confessed to feeling like a cat on a hot tin roof. In a chat with Entertainment
Tonight in April 2023, Tyler shared

“My knees were knocking. I was shocked you couldn’t hear my teeth chattering the
entire time I was on set”. Amidst the backstage bustle, a pivotal moment
occurred when Perry, with a twinkle in his eye, whispered, “Get ready for your
life to change.”

Little did Tyler know that this friendly prophecy would ring true, considering
the show was the talk of the town back then. Further, Tyler reflected on the
unpredictability of showbiz, noting that sometimes one does not truly comprehend
the impact a job will have on their life. Yet, she was aware that landing the
role in the hit sitcom marked a significant turning point in her career. Her
journey echoed the highs and lows of navigating the entertainment industry, with
Perry’s words becoming a prelude to a transformative phase in Tyler’s career.

Tyler was not the only one to unveil Perry’s benevolence. Another fellow actor
had their musings on how the actor’s warmth radiated.

ECHOES OF PERRY’S WARMTH

In a bittersweet remembrance, Jessica Hecht, a star from Friends, warmly
recounted her memories of the late Perry. Speaking to Page Six at the Manhattan
Theatre Club’s 2023 Fall Gala, Hecht, known for her role as Susan Bunch, shared
a delightful anecdote from Season 2’s The One With the Breast Milk episode. She
vividly described Perry’s humorous attempt at tasting breast milk, underlining
his amiable nature and knack for easing tension on the set.

Adding depth to the portrait of Perry, Hecht observed that his kindness extended
more generously to others than to himself, a trait often found in those
grappling with addiction. She painted a touching picture of Perry’s earnest
desire to alleviate the pain felt by those around him. The shocking news of
