James Gunn is making his Superman: Legacy every bit different from Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder's Man of Steel even in terms of location.

Away From Henry Cavill’s ‘Man of Steel’ in California, James Gunn Chooses to Shoot ‘Superman: Legacy’ in an Entirely New Place

James Gunn has consistently stood out as a unique filmmaker whose visionary
approach diverges from the norm, consistently delivering fresh and captivating
content to audiences. His unique eye for storytelling and prowess in presenting
fresh content was clear through Guardians of the Galaxy and its blockbuster
success. But just how much his vision and methods differed from the rest only
sunk in when he became the head of DC alongside Peter Safran and replaced Henry
Cavill [https://netflixjunkie.com/tag/henry-cavill/] as Superman as well as
pushed a whole era of DC under the rug.

As the new DC head, Gunn is not letting biased fans hold him back in reinventing
DC and hopefully restoring its past grandeur. Therefore, he is making sure that
his first project in the superhero universe, Superman: Legacy, is different in
every way from its past renditions. Including locations.

JAMES GUNN TAKES SUPERMAN: LEGACY FAR FROM HENRY CAVILL AND MAN OF STEEL

James Gunn’s arrival at the DC studios had an impact no lesser than the election
of a new president for comic and superhero fans in the country. Gunn himself did
nothing to stray away from the comparison as he began making drastic changes as
soon as he came in

One of the most revolting according to fans was replacing Henry Cavill. However,
Gunn didn’t give in, and as more updates about Superman: Legacy emerge, it
becomes clear that he was determined to distance DC from the Man of Steel era.
The fact that the new Superman movie is primarily being shot in Atlanta serves
as proof.

The decision to shoot the new Superman film in Atlanta brings a fresh
perspective to the iconic superhero’s story. This choice not only injects new
life into the franchise but also underscores James Gunn’s determination to
revamp DC. The new location is particularly surprising given that Man of Steel
was shot in the bustling streets of California. However, Atlanta with its wide
landscapes is a whole different vibe.

Legacy’?

Given that it has James Gunn at the centre of affairs and is missing a
much-loved Henry Cavill, even the change of location has raised many eyebrows.
But for all his faults, the change in location is not enough to mark Gunn as a
trailblazer. Especially given the history of Superman movies.

SUPERMAN’S GLOBAL FILMING ODYSSEY

James Gunn may be determined to make his Superman movie as different as possible
from its predecessor, but he is not the first one to choose a different location
for Superman. The man who dons the cape and the location where he dons it have
always changed in the Superman franchise. Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel modernized
the classic tale against California’s stunning landscapes, while Superman
Returns brought a fresh perspective to Metropolis and Smallville in Australia.

The change in location provides for a diverse storytelling experience. But other
than cinematography, there is a very significant reason behind James Gunn
choosing to shoot the movie in Atlanta and not California. The past few months
have been turbulent in Hollywood due to the SAG AFTRA strikes. And California,
being the undeclared hub of Hollywood, was not the most convenient place to
shoot a movie. Therefore, it is likely that James Gunn chose Atlanta to ensure
that Justice: League reaches the audience on time.

Aliza's journey into entertainment reporting began with her time at Otakukart, where she wrote over a thousand articles. Her writing style is cheeky and engaging, as seen in her report "Somewhat Alarmed," where she narrates Jimmy Kimmel's hilarious story of how Jason Bateman tricked him into gecko-sitting. Aliza's ultimate dream is to study and critique films that capture her imagination and the attention of movie-goers worldwide. When she is not busy binge-watching Sacha Baron Cohen movies and The Office, she loves to curl up with a weathered copy of a Khaled Hosseini or Indu Sundaresan book.
