Marvel Studios may push filming on Avengers: Secret Wars into 2027, according to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman. For a franchise built on crossovers, a production shift is more than a scheduling footnote. Secret Wars is meant to cap the Multiverse Saga, tying together years of films and streaming stories. Marvel’s plans, however, have repeatedly met changes and industry shutdowns.

The latest update leaves the timetable murky, but the stakes are clear: Marvel’s biggest crossover must make those detours feel deliberate.

Daniel Richtman wrote on X that Marvel was “thinking of delaying shooting for Secret Wars once more.” He suggested production could get postponed to February 2027, though no final decision has been reported. Ironically, it was only September 30 that he had reported production had been expected to begin in November, while the Russo brothers recently said they had started “soft prepping” the project.

Marvel has not confirmed a change to the filming schedule, so Richtman’s post remains a report rather than an official studio update. If anything, the distinction matters for a film of this scale.

The thing about the movie is that it has already moved on the release calendar. Disney shifted it from May 7, 2027, to December 17 that year, alongside a seven-month move for the Dr. Doom focused Avengers: Doomsday, now due December 18, 2026. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing both, returning after Infinity War and Endgame.

A later start, as per Daniel Richtman, could squeeze time for a film requiring a huge cast and multiverse-scale effects, though its release date has not changed. The delay remains speculative, but even the possibility complicates expectations around Marvel’s finale.

Marvel’s multiverse plan keeps shifting

After Avengers: Endgame, Marvel expanded into Disney+ series, but the Multiverse Saga proved difficult to coordinate. Strikes halted productions, Disney asked Marvel to slow its output, and the planned Kang the Conqueror storyline was abandoned after Jonathan Majors’ exit. Now, Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom, a pivot putting Doomsday at the center of the next crossover.

Marvel’s next milestones include the ongoing VisionQuest, Doomsday in December 2026 and Secret Wars in December 2027. Beyond the saga, projects include a new X-Men film and Black Panther 3. Another filming delay would not automatically change the release date, but it underlines Marvel’s balancing act: Secret Wars must feel like the culmination of years of storytelling, not a deadline met at any cost.
