Spider-Man: Brand New Day has truly breathed a new life into Marvel fandom. It seems to have struck that lost spark that MCU desperately needed after the disappointing run of Thunderbolts* last year. Now, the franchise is again turning the clock back to bring its OG heavyweights back into the fold. All eyes are now on Avengers: Doomsday to recreate the same magic that made Infinity War and Endgame such cultural juggernauts.

But while the stakes may be bigger than ever, the filmmaking process has remained fluid. Anthony and Joe Russo have continued to refine the script even after cameras began rolling. And now we have an explanation for it too.

The Russos kept working on an unfinished script

The Russo brothers recently revealed to Associated Press that they have a tendency to keep the script evolving even after the cameras begin rolling. This is done in order to leave room for the story to breathe and change throughout the filmmaking process. They keep fine-tuning the existing material depending on the interpretations and energy of the cast.

"We like to see what the actors bring to the characters, and sometimes you don’t get the actors until a few days or few weeks before you shoot them. And a lot of the time, that’s when the magic happens," Joe Russo said.

In fact, the Russo Brothers are still making adjustments and improvisations, even with just three months left to the movie's release, as reported by AP. However, the bigger question now is whether Avengers: Doomsday can live up to the massive box-office hype of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which created a number close to Endgame

Anthony Russo has himself admitted that Brand New Day poses a "challenge" for Doomsday.

Will Avengers: Doomsday surpass Brand New Day's hype?

As reported by AP, Anthony Russo recently called Brand New Day's success “a wonderful challenge" ahead of Doomsday. The film has grossed $2.33 billion worldwide at the box office, only $464.7 million short of Avengers: Endgame. Nonetheless, the director duo aims to bring something very new to the table, despite the supposed ultimate ending with Endgame.

"We never want to coast on the capital that already exists. We want the greatest value of the film to reside in the new thing it’s bringing to the table,” Anthony Russo told AP.

With so many changes that underwent with the project, including the story, its central characters and the title itself, the Russo brothers seem very determined to get every piece in place in their bid to deliver a box-office spectacle bigger than what Marvel has managed with Brand New Day. But whether those changes pay off will only be be seen when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18.
