Aubrey Plaza Is “Deeply Manifesting” an MCU Return as Lady Death

MCU’s phase 3 was a direct result of Thanos’ obsession with finding the Infinity Stones and erasing half the population of the universe. And the reasoning behind it? To restore the balance in the cosmos between living beings and the resources. But ever wondered how he got to that logic? It was Lady Death who was pulling the strings from the shadows. Apparently, Thanos was in love with Lady Death, and he did everything to fulfill her wishes.

All this was never explained in the MCU, but it is in the comic books. However, the franchise did introduce the character in the TV series Agatha All Along, where Aubrey Plaza played Rio Videl, who was later revealed to be Lady Death herself. It has been a couple of years now, and there is no mention of Lady Death in the MCU, and Plaza might want to change that.

In fact, Aubrey Plaza has recently expressed her desire to return as Lady Death in the MCU.

Aubrey Plaza expresses interest in a Lady Death storyline in the MCU

In a recent sitting with editor Stephen Horbelt for the Television Academy about her latest animated series, Kevin, which she co-created and starred in, Aubrey Plaza talked briefly about her interest in an MCU return as Lady Death. Horbelt asked her if returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was on the cards, and Plaza seemed thrilled at the prospect.

“I am absolutely up for it. I’m deeply manifesting a Lady Death project in the MCU,” said Plaza.

Plaza further added that the character has so much potential and has the power of manipulation and spells that make her an interesting prospect to explore. Furthermore, she has this love triangle with Thanos and Deadpool in the comics, which will be fun to bring to the screen. And to top it all off, she does not die, so the possibilities are endless.

As Death, she possesses powers that are beyond comprehension and is practically invincible due to her ability to control time, darkness, and, most importantly, necromancy. Possessing that kind of power means she can both kill and bring back to life anyone. In the comics, she also has immense elemental magic on her side as the original Green Witch.

A glimpse of her abilities was showcased in Agatha All Along, where she wreaks havoc in her attempt to maintain the stability between life and death.

What happened in the MCU when Lady Death last appeared?

In Jac Schaeffer's miniseries Agatha All Along, Aubrey Plaza portrayed Rio Vidal. One of the key figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lady Death, finds a vessel in Vidal in the show. Agatha has a complicated connection with Vidal, who is also her lover. Later on, it became clear that the character is both the vessel and, more significantly, the personification of Death.

When it comes to her role as Death, it is Vidal's method of making sure equilibrium is maintained and flourishes. At the end of Agatha All Along, Vidal accepted Agatha's sacrifice, sparing the latter's son in exchange for Agatha's soul. Although there has not been any official word or confirmation that a Lady Death project is in the works, it would be amazing to see Aubrey Plaza, who is also lined up to be Hollywood Madam, as the character.
