Aubrey Plaza has penned an emotional yet bold message announcing the cancellation of her show, Kevin. Her animated series has now joined the growing list of shows that have been canceled after just one or two seasons. Whether due to declining ratings or other factors, many promising series have struggled to survive and were ultimately taken off the air.

As Kevin falls victim to the same disappointing trend, the show's co-creator had plenty to say about its future. She also took a subtle jab at today's tech era in the entertainment world.

Aubrey Plaza took to Instagram to announce that her animated series Kevin had been canceled by Amazon Prime Video. She expressed her gratitude to the cast and crew who helped bring the show to life and thanked fans for their support. In her heartfelt message, Plaza also shared her disappointment that the series would not be able to continue despite having just gotten started.

She recalled how Parks and Recreation faced a similar struggle during its early days, but NBC stood by the show, allowing it to grow into a hit and eventually a cult classic. While she had hoped Kevin would receive the same opportunity, she hinted at how today's entertainment landscape, with streaming and much more, leaves little room for new shows to find their footing over time.

“I was hoping for this for Kevin but sadly we are living in a different time in our industry. I hope the machines won’t ruin everything. Maybe Kevin will find a new owner someday. Love you all very much. Meow,” she wrote on her Instagram.

Kevin was co-created by Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert. The animated series focuses on a rescue cat named Kevin, voiced by Jason Schwartzman, who ends up at a Queens pet rescue after his human family separates. There, he begins forming unlikely friendships with the other cats while adjusting to his new life. The voice cast also includes Plaza, Whoopi Goldberg, John Waters, Amy Sedaris, and Aparna Nancherla.

Although Kevin's run on Amazon Prime Video has come to an end, Plaza remains optimistic about the show's future and hopes it will find a second chance elsewhere. Apart from her hope for Kevin, the actress has plenty more she is looking forward to and manifesting for the year ahead.

Aubrey Plaza wants to return to MCU

Earlier this year, Aubrey Plaza spoke with Television Academy editor Stephen Horbelt, where she discussed Kevin as well as her hopes for the next chapter of her career. During the conversation, the actress revealed that she would love to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plaza portrayed Death in Agatha All Along.

“I am absolutely up for it. I’m deeply manifesting a Lady Death project in the MCU,” said Plaza.

Death is one of the MCU's most powerful and enigmatic characters with immense abilities. She explained that the character has much untapped potential and could play a much larger role if brought back. While the possibility of Plaza reprising the role is certainly intriguing, whether she will make another MCU appearance remains to be seen.
