Aubrey Plaza has a lot to celebrate this year. It is clearly an eventful year for Plaza, who is executive producing the animated film Kevin while also working on The Heidi Fleiss Story, in which she is set to portray Fleiss. A source told PEOPLE that Aubrey Plaza is expecting her first child with Christopher Abbott. And she is due this fall. Later, the actress’s representative confirmed the news to the outlet.

“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source said. “They feel very blessed.” Plaza and Abbott have previously worked together on several projects, including the 2020 film Black Bear. They also appeared in the Off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. It ran at the Lucille Lortel Theatre from late 2023 through early 2024.

Cut to the present, Abbott is working alongside Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. Plaza, meanwhile, was recently spotted at Paris Fashion Week, rocking a red sweater and a brown leather jacket. While the arrival of a new family member may bring changes to many aspects of their lives, Plaza might benefit creatively in her writing career.

After all, parenthood could give her new inspiration for her writing, much like her cherished Christmas traditions have in the past.

Aubrey Plaza will have new inspiration

Many are well aware that Aubrey Plaza, who is set to play Hollywood Madam in her upcoming movie, is also a children’s book author. But what is really interesting is where her inspiration comes from. She revealed that she came up with the stories while spending time with her friends’ kids, pranking them as the Christmas Witch.

"Basically, I have my friends sign up for slots on Christmas morning if they have kids,” she said on The Drew Barrymore Show. “And I show up when they're opening their presents around 7:30 in the morning.”

She added, “It adds this element of fright on Christmas morning—which kids love." She loved the tradition, and that inspired her two books.

Plaza co-wrote The Legend of the Christmas Witch (2021) and its follow-up, The Return of the Christmas Witch (2022), with her friend, Dan Murphy. Now, as she steps into this new chapter of her life, parenthood could give her even more ideas for future stories.
