As speculation swirls around the iconic Hobbit with the upcoming new LOTR movie, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the actor recently addressed the growing buzz, sharing about is excitement about the film. However, although he cannot reveal any details until an official announcement is made, he said that he is happy about the prospect of another film.
Adding further, Wood shared that he also would not want anyone else stepping into Frodo’s shoes while he is still alive and capable of playing the role, a sentiment he expressed after the interviewer reminded him of Ian McKellen’s earlier comment about not wanting anyone else to portray Gandalf.
“Well, no, and I totally get that. I certainly wouldn’t want anybody else to play Frodo either as long as I’m alive and able," Wood added.
Wood’s journey as the beloved hobbit began in 2001, when Peter Jackson brought The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring to life, casting him as Frodo Baggins, the humble ring-bearer of Middle-earth. He later returned to the role in 2012’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, reminding audiences that the Shire’s most famous hobbit was never far from the saga.
Adding to the buzz, speculation about The Hunt for Gollum’s complete cast, plot, and release date, too, has reached a new high, as fans eagerly wait to see which familiar faces might return for the next chapter of the saga and when.

Set for release in late 2027, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to reveal the untold chapter of Middle-earth, unfolding in the shadowy years between the end of The Hobbit trilogy and the beginning of The Lord of the Rings. The story centres on a secret mission where Gandalf quietly asks Aragorn to hunt down Gollum, hoping to uncover what the creature knows about the One Ring before its danger spreads across the realm.

The cast so far is said to include Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and Andy Serkis returning both as director and as Gollum. Reports have also suggested that Anya Taylor-Joy is in talks to join as the female lead, whereas Leo Woodall could appear as well. Apart from them and Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom are also expected to be in the upcoming film. As much remains unconfirmed for now, the winds of Middle-earth seem to hint that the fandom’s iconic Frodo Baggins may not be done with his journey just yet.
