Ariana Grande starrer Wicked movie comes to a halt just days before completing the shoot, due to the ongoing writers and actors strike.

Ariana Grande’s Musical Comedy ‘Wicked’ Gets Shut by SAG-AFTRA, Just Days Before Wrapping Up Shoot

Ariana Grande will make fans wait longer for her next movie. The Disney star was
set to create magic in the fantasy world of Wicked with actors like Cynthia
Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, etc. But the musical comedy has been
struck by the reality of Hollywood’s condition today. It has queued up to be one
of the projects affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike that began a few days ago.

Movies ushered to get their premieres and shoots done before the strike could
begin. Some did not have hopes, and others did not expect the condition to be
this severe. Reports reveal how this comedy musical halted before the finish
line.

HOW WICKED STARRING ARIANA GRANDE GOT CAUGHT IN THE SAG-AFTRA STORM

For a long time, actors and writers had demanded basic needs to be catered to
before joining hands for a major strike. Legendary composer Stephen Lawrence
Schwartz revealed in an interview with Variety
[https://variety.com/2023/film/news/wicked-shut-down-sag-strike-1235674571/] how
the SAG-AFTRA strike stopped the movie that was nearing its completion. He
composed music for the original musical of Winnie Holzman and the movie
adaptation. “It’s quite frustrating in a way,” he said, as they were ready to
wrap up in 10 days.

> Not done yet. Just paused until the strike is over and we can finish the last
> pieces of the movie. We were only a few days away from being done so we were
> SO close. It’s been very painful to put a halt to it all but we will be back!

The artist also came out with his support for the strike and maintained
solidarity with them. While it was painful, he is sure of bouncing back once the
matters are resolved. Movie director Jon M. Chu also relieved fans by announcing
that the strike will not delay the movie’s original release date, which is set
for November 2024. He also showed sympathy for the strike members while assuring
them of having enough content to release the movie.

The movie has been in discussion long before its eight-month shoot began. Here
are details revealing the unique aspects of the movie.

WHAT IS WICKED ABOUT?

The movie is based on the novel written by Gregory Maguire called Wicked: The
Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. It centers around three
characters: Glinda, Elphaba, and Dorothy Gale, and their magical journey in Oz.
The movie is a spin-off of The Wizard of Oz, and considering its fantasy theme,
it was shot mostly in the beautiful landscape of Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire.

After the successful Broadway, the musical movie will help reach its audience
globally through its magic on the big screens. Schwartz promises wonderful
performances by the cast, skillfully prepped by the makeup and design team.
