Anya Taylor-Joy is stepping into a new role behind the camera with Lucky, the Apple TV+ limited series she also headlines. Based on Marissa Stapley’s novel, the show follows a woman on the run after a heist gone wrong, and Taylor-Joy has said the producing side of the project has been a meaningful learning experience.
“I mean it's not bad. I feel so fortunate that she's given me this opportunity,” Joy told Variety.

Taylor-Joy told Variety, reflecting how closely she has worked with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine on the series, with Witherspoon serving as an executive producer and Taylor-Joy producing through her LadyKiller banner.
“She loves creators with strong voices and I really felt like I was given the chance to learn and to grow and to really be a part of this. I am really really proud of the collaboration of this team.” she added. That makes Lucky more than just another acting job for her.
It is also part of a larger creative partnership built around a female led crime story and a strong production team. The series has been described as a seven episode thriller centered on a con artist trying to survive after a major theft unravels her life. With Taylor-Joy leading the cast and actively producing, Lucky gives her the chance to shape the project from the ground up.
And while she is expanding behind the scenes, her on screen journey is heading back to one of fantasy’s biggest worlds.

She is set to play Seren, a Sindar Elf from the Woodland Realm described as a trusted and dangerous agent of King Thranduil. That makes the character sound like more than just a background addition. Seren appears to be positioned as a sharp, capable figure inside the Elven world, which fits the tone of the franchise and Taylor-Joy’s reputation for playing intense, layered characters.
The film itself is being directed by Andy Serkis, who is also returning as Gollum, while other familiar names from the original saga are back too, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Lee Pace as Thranduil. The story is expected to follow the hunt for Gollum in the years before The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, which gives the movie a built in sense of mystery and destiny.
