Antony Starr has made it clear that he is not supportive of the idea of AI in filmmaking. He recently reshared filmmaker Kane Parsons’ comment on Instagram, where the director expressed that he would make AI disappear if he could. Alongside his support for Parsons, Starr added that fans still show strong appreciation for human stories on screen.
"Yes yes- “It’s coming NMW” bla bla bla…But recent movies have proven that people want human stories. Not big ridiculous VFX-driven nonsense. Ever tried to go to an Al movie premiere? The cast are horrible and they hate their human fans,” he wrote on his IG story.
As for Parsons, the director has expressed skepticism about AI taking over creative work, though he acknowledges it could help with repetitive VFX tasks. However, he is more concerned about its wider risks, saying there are already serious, harmful consequences associated with the technology. At the same time, he is interested in exploring AI as a theme in films rather than relying on it for creative control.
However, while some have been clear about their dissatisfaction with AI in filmmaking, others have been vocal in their support for the technology.
Martin Scorsese embraces AI through new project
One of the most surprising names to join the group of vocal supporters of AI is Martin Scorsese. In a conversation with The New York Times, Scorsese shared that he has utilized generative AI technologies through the AI start-up Black Forest Labs. Moreover, he is also working closely with the company as an advisor.
“Cinema is a young medium, only around 125 years old, so we have to be open to how it can evolve,” Scorsese told The New York Times.

He reportedly joined Black Forest Labs as an advisor nearly a year ago and used its technologies during the pre-production of a new film. However, he has yet to reveal the name of the project. Scorsese is among several notable names in the industry to show interest in AI. That shows a clear divide in Hollywood, while the future of AI remains uncertain.
