Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise is really an enigma in terms of the tone and genre it tries to approach. The movies in this universe keep shifting their tone from pure horror to horror comedy depending on the mood and the film one is watching. The balancing act in these films between the dark humor, the slapstick violence, and the over-the-top antics of the protagonist, Ash Williams, is just masterful. Even after 45 years, the franchise is still going strong with new stories constantly hitting the big screen.

Another new story, Evil Dead Wrath, which has been in production since February of this year, has wrapped filming.

Evil Dead Wrath, the third movie in the current stand-alone series of Evil Dead films, has officially finished shooting in New Zealand, according to an official Instagram post today. Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County) is at the helm of the project, writing and directing the forthcoming follow-up.

Although the plot of the new installment has not yet been disclosed, there are clear signs that the movie will follow the same stand-alone structure as some of the later Evil Dead releases, with new victims going through trials and otherworldly horrors, all connected to the notorious Necronomicon.

The film features an amazing cast, which includes Charlotte Hope (The Nun), Jessica McNamee (The Meg), Zach Gilford (Midnight Mass), Josh Helman (Mad Max: Fury Road), Ella Newton (Girl at the Window), Ella Oliphant (Black Snow), and Elizabeth Cullen (The Clearing). As of right now, the movie is slated to open in theaters on April 7, 2028.

However, we have Evil Dead Burn, which debuts this summer, to anticipate before Evil Dead Wrath opens in theaters.

Another Evil Dead chapter ready to launch

Evil Dead Burn will be released on the big screen on July 9, so there will not be a long wait for another Evil Dead movie. Evil Dead Burn is a new stand-alone film in the popular series, directed by Sébastien Vaniček and produced by Sam Raimi, the creator of Evil Dead. Following Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise (2023), Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead (2013), and Sam Raimi's original Evil Dead trilogy, which included The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead 2 (1987), and Army of Darkness (1992), is the forthcoming horror movie.

The new spin-off also follows the conclusion of Campbell's three-season television series Ash vs. Evil Dead, which ended in 2018. The Evil Dead franchise is up for a massive universe expansion with these two movies releasing only one year apart, and more stories in the pipeline, most probably. For now, there is a month of waiting for the next installment, and during this time, Sam Raimi’s Send Help might be a worthy binge heading to theaters for Evil Dead Burn.
