As per variety, the project is inspired by the true story of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Denis Mukwege. It highlights the plight of survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, focusing on the women he champions in Eastern Congo. Jolie’s involvement in the project is deeply personal, stemming from her long-standing partnership with Dr. Mukwege.

Angelina Jolie has known and worked alongside him for over a decade, campaigning to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war. Mukwege has treated tens of thousands of rape survivors, and Jolie’s work with him showcases her dedication. The film, Muganga, The One Who Treats, is scheduled for release in France on September 24. It is produced by Cynthia Pinet and directed by Marie-Hélène Roux, who also co-wrote the script with Jean-René Lemoine.
