As the production of the film took place in Canada, a little over an hour outside Calgary, after Colorado was deemed too expensive, Haigh described how the remote location helped shape the film’s intensity, with the family home built from scratch in the woods under the supervision of production designer Emmanuel Fréchette. The house was constructed entirely on location, both inside and out, despite heavy snow and winds reaching 100 miles per hour. Haigh also noted that the area had previously been used for The Revenant, making the production his own, more delicate take on the survival drama.

“It’s where they shot The Revenant, actually. So this is my version of The Revenant — a slightly more delicate version,” he said.

The film stars Fred Hechinger in the lead role and follows a young man navigating a harsh wilderness setting. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Haigh expanded on the comparison, indicating that the film's harsh environment and survival elements set it apart from his earlier work.
