Andrew Garfield has denied being part of Avengers: Doomsday, though the manner of his denial is what everyone is now talking about. The actor was cornered on camera and asked a question that many assumed would get a routine answer. Instead, his response carried a strange, knowing energy that left the moment feeling unresolved. What should have been a simple no somehow became the most debated answer of his press run, and the internet noticed immediately.

While one actor tried to bury a rumor with a wink, another story about the same franchise was quietly building around a very different kind of denial.

Speculation around Avengers: Doomsday has only grown louder as its release date creeps closer, with every cast photo and set leak treated as a possible clue. Andrew Garfield, given his history with the character, has remained one of the most watched names in that guessing game. Reporters have repeatedly tried to pin him down on the subject, hoping for one clear answer instead of another vague dodge. 

"No, I'm not," Garfield answered without hesitation when the reporter from Variety asked him again.

When pushed further and told to repeat it while looking into the camera, he simply echoed himself, saying, "I'm not. I'm not."

The interviewer then reminded him of his track record, pointing out that he has a known history of dodging the truth on this exact subject. Garfield did not argue the point.

He instead added, "Yeah, so you'll find out, I suppose, one way or the other," turning a flat denial into something far more loaded.

That response is exactly why fans refuse to take his word at face value this time. Variety and several other outlets have noted that his history includes firm denials before Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film he was very much part of. Official cast information, along with listings from Marvel and the movie database, currently excludes both Garfield and Tobey Maguire from the  Avengers: Doomsday roster. Principal photography has already wrapped on a project stacked with names like Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and the Fantastic Four ensemble, leaving no confirmed slot for either former Spider-Man.

The claim linked to an article that has since disappeared, making the source even harder to verify. Even so, the timing added fuel to an already sensitive conversation across the franchise.

Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo have previously acknowledged that artificial intelligence could play some role in future filmmaking, framing it as a tool that still requires human oversight rather than full replacement. That comment resurfaced quickly once the rumor began circulating online. Adding to the unease, Spider-Man: Brand New Day recently faced backlash after its own art book featured an image with a visibly warped taxi and a distorted fire escape, both flagged by viewers as possible signs of AI involvement.
