Amy Pascal has spent decades turning Hollywood's biggest swings into billion-dollar home runs, but Spider-Man might be her ultimate superpower. From negotiating the Marvel-Sony partnership to producing Tom Holland's blockbuster trilogy and championing the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse films, Pascal has helped make Peter Parker a pop-culture institution. So when a producer with that kind of Spidey-sense says Destin Daniel Cretton impressed her, it is worth listening.

For Pascal to want more Spider-Man films with Cretton is a major vote of confidence, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day seems to have earned it with flying colors.

Amy Pascal has spent decades making Hollywood blockbusters look like a very profitable magic trick, but even she knows when a director has pulled off something extraordinary. Speaking to SFX Magazine for their August 2026 edition, the veteran producer showered Destin Daniel Cretton with praise, calling him an incredibly gifted action director who has made Spider-Man: Brand New Day something truly special.

"Destin has really blown all our minds, and we hope that he will continue to make Spider-Man movies with us," Pascal told SFX Magazine. Although she did acknowledge Jon Watts, the director responsible for Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies, she noted that "Destin has made something really special too".

Cretton seems to have earned that confidence by giving Spider-Man a distinctly physical makeover. From 420-fps cameras and a never-before-seen wrist-POV shot to Jackie Chan-style combat and practical New York sets, the filmmaker is making Peter Parker's world feel thrillingly tangible. Even the swinging sound design draws from Cretton's Hawaiian surfing memories, because apparently, web-slinging needed better acoustics.

For a guy whose direction has fans merrily speculating about Sadie Sink's mysterious role and what she might do next, it is hardly surprising that Cretton has the Marvel credentials to back up the curiosity.

Destin Daniel Cretton's Marvel credentials

Destin Daniel Cretton is hardly a newcomer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having already made his superhero credentials impossible to miss. He co-wrote and directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, bringing Marvel Studios a critically acclaimed blockbuster powered by intricate martial arts and kinetic action. The filmmaker then expanded his Marvel résumé with Wonder Man, serving as co-creator, executive producer, and director on multiple episodes.

That success helped Cretton secure a major multi-year overall deal with Marvel Studios, giving him plenty of room to keep swinging through the superhero universe. From Shang-Chi's fists to Spider-Man's webs, his Marvel track record suggests a filmmaker who understands both spectacle and character. No wonder Amy Pascal believes Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have found its newest web-slinging MVP.
