When the trailer for the new Riz Ahmed show, Bait, was dropped approximately a week ago, it sparked genuine hype. The plot seemed to have taken a comedic approach to the whole James Bond casting drama that is currently going on in Hollywood. Since Daniel Craig’s retirement as 007, there has been a huge discourse on who will be the next James Bond. The series depicts the same drama and has now become critics’ favorite before even hitting the screens.

Bait, which is set to release on Amazon Prime, has scored an unbelievably perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to early reviews, the new Prime Video show, Bait, might be the ideal watch to satiate your Bond cravings. Rotten Tomatoes gives Bait a flawless 100% rating on its debut. Well, right now there are not too many reviews on the platform, which means this perfect score might take a hit in the future. But at the present moment, the show has impressed the critics with its unique premise.

According to the reviews, critics concur that the new James Bond meta-twist Prime Video series is an unusual thriller that somehow finds its way into the psychological crisis of an emerging actor. The show that features actors of mainly South Asian descent was appreciated by many for its take on identity, diaspora experience, and cultural integration.

Interestingly, the show’s ratings surpass those of all of the James Bond movies, including Sir Sean Connery’s 1964 film Goldfinger, which is rated at 99% - the highest in the James Bond universe. Now that is an achievement the makers of the show can be proud of. However, this would not have been possible without the show’s clever writing.

A Brown James Bond and Satire: Riz Ahmed’s New Series ‘Bait’ Looks Like Promising Chaos

It is fascinating how the story, through all its eccentricities and dark humor, also finds a way to show the psychological chaos of an actor's mind.

The cleverly balanced story and full utilization of chaos in Bait

Shah Latif, the main lead of the new series Bait, played by Riz Ahmed, goes into a full-blown existential crisis after learning that he could be the next James Bond. Shah's family in Wembley, his cousin Zulfi (Guz Khan), and his complex relationship with his ex-girlfriend Yasmin (Ritu Arya) are all quickly impacted by what seems to be a career breakthrough. At the same time, Shah finds it difficult to identify himself when public attention and criticism begin to grow.

Even though the show is dark, it also has a healthy dose of humor that makes watching it more enjoyable. The supporting cast, particularly Guz Khan with his comedic timing, provides the series with an anchor, while Ahmed's performance is also praiseworthy as he keeps the character grounded despite the personal hardships. Bait will surely be liked by the rest of the audience upon its release, and the show’s cast and plot have already generated much hype, so its success seems inevitable.
