With a prison that no one should escape and a murder that seemingly no one could commit, Supermax already feels like the kind of high concept thriller built around twists rather than spectacle alone. While many details remain under wraps, the latest casting announcement has only added to the growing curiosity.

Deadline reported Jaafar Jackson's casting in Supermax, with Matt Grobar revealing the latest addition to the Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax production. 

The confirmed cast currently includes:

Will Smith as Rex, an FBI agent leading the investigation into a baffling murder inside the world's most secure prison.

AnnaSophia Robb as the second FBI agent working alongside Rex as they unravel the mystery.

Jaafar Jackson in a pivotal role that remains undisclosed. Producers have confirmed only that his character plays a central part in the film's larger mystery.

Behind the camera, director David Gordon Green is working from a screenplay by David Weil and David J. Rosen, with production handled by The Picture Company alongside Westbrook Studios. The ensemble is still relatively small, which makes every new casting announcement feel significant. With Jaafar Jackson arriving after his breakout success in Michael, expectations are naturally rising for what could become his next defining performance.

At its center, Supermax follows two FBI agents, played by Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb investigating an impossible murder committed inside what is described as the world's most secure prison. The premise blends the mechanics of a classic locked room mystery with the relentless momentum of an action thriller, suggesting that every inmate, guard, and visitor could become part of a much larger conspiracy. 

Very little else has been officially revealed, and that secrecy appears intentional. Jaafar Jackson's character has not been identified, and Amazon MGM Studios has kept additional plot details tightly guarded. That silence has only fueled speculation that the film will rely heavily on unexpected twists rather than revealing its biggest surprises ahead of release. 

The mystery already sounds compelling, but many viewers are equally eager to know when they will finally be able to watch it.

As of now, Supermax does not have an official release date. The latest reports indicate that principal photography is scheduled to begin in mid August 2026, making a 2027 debut the most likely scenario if production proceeds as planned.  Amazon MGM Studios is expected to release the film globally on Prime Video rather than through a traditional theatrical rollout.
