Amanda Seyfried has discovered that playing Elizabeth Holmes was the easy part; talking about her on a red carpet is an entirely different story. After her noticeably awkward answers on the red carpet of You Can See Everything about whether she had spoken to the infamous Theranos founder went viral, Seyfried addressed the moment by commenting under a video of the exchange, seemingly just as confused by the conversation as everyone watching it.

Celebrity life comes with an inconvenient little tradition: answering questions you would rather dodge, preferably without looking like you want the floor to swallow you whole. Seyfried has become the latest star to discover that sometimes, the follow-up explanation only makes things more entertaining.

Amanda Seyfried had a rather unusual answer for reporters who wanted to know what was going on in her life. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the The Dropout star was asked whether she was finding interviews difficult lately, prompting a winding response about fate, the people who enter our lives, and being exactly where we are meant to be.

“It’s interesting, yeah, it’s interesting,” Seyfried began, before admitting that things were different “for a good reason.”

“What am I even saying,” she commented beneath Instagram footage of the interview, seemingly recognizing that her answer had taken a life of its own.

Rather than offering a straightforward explanation, Seyfried continued reflecting on how everyone in her life was meant to be there, adding that she was meant to attend the event that evening and return home the following day. Asked whether everyday conversations had become difficult, she said it seemed to have happened "only of late."

The Hollywood Reporter also asked Seyfried what she would rather discuss, given that there were certain things she could not talk about. Her solution was delightfully specific: emus, Halloween, apple pie, olives, and “really good hard ciders.” The actress, who played Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s The Dropout, appeared far more comfortable listing her preferred conversation topics than navigating the interview itself. Her Instagram reaction only made the exchange more entertaining.

Amanda Seyfried on Turning Down What She Thought Was “Marvel's First Bomb,” Regrets Missing Her Biggest Role

Just as she turned down an uncomfortable show, Amanda Seyfried has her reasons for dodging questions about You Can See Everything.

Why Amanda Seyfried has been dodging You Can See Everything questions?

Amanda Seyfried has been dodging questions about You Can See Everything for a reason that goes well beyond an awkward red-carpet encounter. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s A24 documentary about Elizabeth Holmes reportedly features Seyfried herself, with the actress revisiting her Emmy-winning portrayal of the Theranos founder in a project that blurs the lines between documentary and performance.

The twist is that Nathan Fielder recruits Seyfried to re-enact real conversations he had with Holmes, while the film also features Holmes reacting to Seyfried’s original performance in Hulu’s The Dropout. That creates an unusually self-referential narrative, with the real entrepreneur, the actress portraying her, and the documentary filmmaker becoming part of the same story. Discussing her involvement too freely could reveal just how far the film takes its increasingly surreal premise, making those uncomfortable interview moments rather more understandable.
