Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney’s characters in The Housemaid form an unexpected alliance to survive. It appears the two actors also share a strong sense of admiration and support for one another off-screen. The 40-year-old has often spoken highly of her former co-star. However, she remained silent during the controversy surrounding Sweeney’s American Eagle campaign.

Now, Seyfried has finally addressed the issue in a recent interview.

Sydney Sweeney’s controversy began in July 2025, around the same time she was promoting The Housemaid. Amanda Seyfried, who joined her for the film’s promotional activities, did not comment on whether the controversy affected Sweeney at the time. However, in a recent interview with British GQ, Seyfried finally addressed the issue, saying it must have been a difficult period for Sweeney.

“We worked really hard and she seemed to be having fun, but I also understood that probably it can't be f****** easy, where she found herself," Seyfried shared. "I have heard her stand up for herself, but I think she found herself between a rock and a hard place,” she said.

Seyfried's support comes months after the controversy began, when viewers criticized the wordplay between "jeans" and "genes" in the American Eagle campaign featuring the Euphoria actress. Sweeney remained silent for several weeks before finally addressing the issue in an interview with GQ. During the conversation, she explained that she loves jeans.

“I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life,” she said.

While fans may have hoped to see Sweeney and Seyfried’s characters reunite, Nina is not expected to have a major role in the next installment.

Will Amanda Seyfried’s Nina return in The Housemaid's Secret

Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney’s The Housemaid was a massive success. In early January 2026, a sequel, The Housemaid's Secret, was officially announced. While Sweeney is set to reprise her role in the second film, Seyfried hinted that her character may only return in a cameo appearance.

“And I almost guarantee that I’m gonna be some small cameo in it, because it’s about Syd and her working for a new family,” she told Marc Malkin of Variety.

Despite the uncertainty over her involvement, Seyfried said she is excited about the sequel. She further added that the story will move into a new chapter of Millie’s life. And that will be yet another dangerous mission for Millie in The Housemaid's Secret.
