The retirement rumors stemmed from comments Alexa Demie made during a 2020 episode of The A24 Podcast, where she candidly spoke about the challenges she faced as a Latina actress in Hollywood. Reflecting on that period in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress recalled repeatedly encountering casting calls that excluded Hispanic backgrounds, leaving her frustrated with the industry's narrow expectations. Demie admitted there were moments when she felt like giving up, saying she was "sick of going into those rooms" and would often tell herself, "I'm quitting, I'm quitting", but those frustrations never translated into a genuine desire to leave acting behind.

“I was sick of going into those rooms, and this was during that time when you’re young and every few months you’re just like, ‘I’m quitting, I’m quitting.’ But knowing me, I never would have quit. I’m more of the energy of like, ‘No, I’m going to show you I can do it.’” Demie told The Hollywood Reporter.

In her conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Demie suggested that much of the speculation ignored a simple reality: she genuinely enjoys living outside Hollywood's constant spotlight. Questioning why people assumed she wanted greater fame, she remarked, "Did you ever think that I don't want it?" before adding that she likes her life as it is and "wouldn't change it," making it clear that her absence was a personal choice rather than a sign of retreat.

However, while Alexa Demie disappeared from the spotlight, Maddy Perez continued living rent-free in every corner of the Euphoria universe.

Maddy Perez remained a fan favorite until the end

If anyone knew how to command a room with a single stare and a perfectly timed comeback, it was undoubtedly Maddy Perez. Long before social media crowned her the internet's favorite "It Girl," Alexa Demie's fan-favorite character had already become the beating heart of Euphoria. From her iconic bathroom-door confrontation during the New Year's Eve party and chaotic romance with Nate Jacobs to her unforgettable one-liners, Maddy evolved into one of television's most recognizable Gen-Z characters despite never being the show's central lead.

As Maddy's popularity exploded, so did Euphoria's cultural dominance. The HBO drama cemented itself as the network's second most-watched series since Game of Thrones, while its third-season premiere pulled in a staggering 8.5 million viewers across HBO and Max within just three days. Even as the final season sparked mixed reactions from critics, audiences kept showing up for the characters they had grown up with. For many fans, Maddy's evolution from a volatile high-school queen bee into one of the show's most self-aware and resilient figures remained among the biggest reasons to stay invested until the very end.

And while Alexa Demie has made it clear that she never abandoned acting, fans won't have to wait long to see her back on screen, with the actress next set to appear in the upcoming drama Fables.
