Alan Ritchson may be one step closer to joining James Gunn's DC Universe. But while the Reacher star has long been a favorite to wear Batman's cape and become the detective, he has already made it clear that this might not be the path ahead for him. That does not mean a DC debut is off the list.

Ritchson recently shared that he has been in conversations with DC Studios. So, while he may not take on the detective role, the DCU might have found a different place for Ritchson.

During his appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Alan Ritchson once again shut down the idea of playing Batman in James Gunn's DC Universe (via ScreenRant). However, he also revealed that he has been in discussions with DC Studios about a different character. While the actor confirmed that no deal has been finalized, he also remained tight-lipped about who he could be playing.

For now, it appears that Gunn and Peter Safran's team are exploring where Ritchson could fit into the expanding DCU rather than casting him as the Dark Knight. Even if those talks lead to a role, Ritchson might not be expected to suit up anytime soon. The actor reportedly has a packed schedule through 2028, with multiple film and television projects already lined up.

So any potential DCU appearance would likely have to work around those commitments. That also means The Brave and the Bold still do not have their Batman. The upcoming film will introduce a new version of Bruce Wayne alongside his son, Damian Wayne. Although Ritchson will not be Batman, landing another major DC role would hardly be unfamiliar territory for the actor. After all, one of Ritchson's most recognizable roles came after a similar change in direction.

Before playing Hawk in Titans, he had originally hoped to portray a different character.

Many know Alan Ritchson for playing Hank Hall, aka Hawk, in DC's Titans. However, during San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the actor revealed that he originally auditioned for the role of Dick Grayson, aka Robin. He was so confident he had landed the part that he even celebrated early by buying himself a Tesla the very same day. 

"I walked away so confident that I got the part that I bought a Tesla that day," he said.

Later, the production team called to inform him that he had actually been cast as Hank instead. The role of Dick Grayson ultimately went to Brenton Thwaites, while Ritchson went on to show a memorable performance as Hawk and one of the team's most loyal heroes. Now, with the actor confirming talks with DC Studios, it remains to be seen which character he could bring to life in James Gunn's DC Universe.
