The S.W.A.T. franchise is not going anywhere anytime soon. The popular police procedural action drama, SWAT, first premiered in 2017 and quickly won over fans. It ran for nearly eight seasons before CBS ultimately canceled the series. That was followed by the development of a new spinoff show, SWAT Exiles, which was initially created without a streaming house or destination.
Fortunately, the S.W.A.T. spinoff show has now found a home as it nears its release.

The S.W.A.T. spin-off Exiles has been acquired by Starz. Meanwhile, international distribution of the show across Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and several other regions will be handled by producer Sony Pictures Television. The series is all set to premiere on September 25, 2026.
Interestingly, Sony developed Exiles on spec before securing a home for the series. With the spin-off show on the way, there has been plenty of curiosity about whether members of the original cast would return. Much to fans' relief, Shemar Moore will reprise his role as Daniel 'Hondo' Harrelson.
“I couldn’t be more excited that Starz is bringing this next chapter to audiences in the U.S. A huge thank you to Sony Pictures Television for believing in this franchise and continuing to invest in what we’ve built together," Moore said in a press release.
Jay Harrington, Patrick St. Esprit, and David Lim are also set to return. Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein have also joined the cast as per the press release by Sony. The new series follows Hondo as he is brought out of retirement to train a group of young recruits and potentially save the S.W.A.T. program after a mission goes wrong.
While fans wait for S.W.A.T.: Exiles to premiere, they can enjoy another thrilling police procedural series in the meantime, The Unit.
What is The Unit
Created by David Mamet, The Unit is a military action-drama series that originally aired on CBS from 2006 to 2009. The series follows an elite, top-secret U.S. special operations team and ran for four seasons and 69 episodes. What makes it even more interesting is that it drew inspiration from the real-life U.S. Army special operations unit called Delta Force.

It was one of the most successful series on CBS and even earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. The show starred Dennis Haysbert, Scott Foley, Regina Taylor, Robert Patrick, Max Martini, and Audrey Marie Anderson. Apart from The Unit, Chicago P.D. is also yet another thrilling show similar to SWAT. Until S.W.A.T. Exiles arrives on screen, The Unit is worth a watch.
