Who could ever forget the Star Wars film series? Right since the beginning, the world has been obsessed with the intergalactic space opera created by George Lucas with his production company, Lucasfilm. No matter the age gap between generations, apart from the love for the franchise, one other thing has been passed down. That is the love for the film’s character, Yoda.

Ever since Yoda made his way to the big screen back in the 80s, the character has made everyone who has ever seen him fall in love. Even though he is a legendary Jedi Master, fans have never gotten over his size and cuteness. In fact, Lucasfilm even created a Yoda fountain at many of their locations, including Singapore. However, most recently, the production studio seems to have had a change of heart over the years and replaced the nine-year-old statue with a Grogu statue.

Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda joined the franchise years after the original Yoda had stepped on the scene. Earlier this year, fans had to come to terms with the fact that the franchise would be leaving Lucas behind with its upcoming films. While fans of the franchise initially loved the character, the recent update of the replacement left fans feeling a little bitter about the whole thing.

While some fans chose to just voice their displeasure at the sudden change, others began drawing connections from the replacement of the statue to the revival of the franchise without the mastermind behind it, George Lukas.

Star Wars fans are unhappy with the change

After 9 years of being a tourist attraction, the decision to remove the Yoda statue was nothing less than a thunderclap. The character has been so adored that even Pedro Pascal could not stop imitating the Jedi master. For the television company, it might have been a time to move on to newer and brighter horizons. However, the timing did not sit well with fans who immediately took to social media to voice their disappointment at the change.

There were also some social media users who claimed that this could be the studio’s way of washing off the legacy built by George Lucas.

While the Singaporean studio has not confirmed or denied anything as of yet, one thing is certain. Fans did not like the replacement of the Yoda fountain and wished they had gone about it differently. Though fans may not get their Yoda back anytime soon, the replacement could tell fans a little more about the direction in which the studio plans to go.
